Owners of houses condemned here in April will gain about 120 days to repair or tear them down. Delays came from owner requests for more time to obtain contractors and finalize plans. Building Inspector Charles W. Mack said many are cooperating and some have already begun repairs, including Gladhill Properties on East Street and James R. Brachey at 455 W South St. The NAACP and Housing Authority seek relocation for about 100 families as 100 new public housing units are planned for completion in August at Sagner and Pennsylvania Avenues.

Judges To Attend Seminar On New District Court System
Magistrate's Court will be light next week so Byron Thompson and Stanley Y Bennett can attend a five day seminar starting July 5. Seventy nine student judges will preside as District Court judges replacing trial magistrates and people's courts statewide. The program led by Douglas Sandford covers tenant landlord traffic criminal cases and ethics plus public defender system and revised rules. It is funded by the Governor's Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice. Thompson Bennett and two Washington County judges will lead the sixth judicial district. The seminar aims to smooth the transition as judges are sworn in in July.
