Surplus medical wares find new use overseas
George Martin, a Gaithersburg hairdresser, joins a local chapter of the American Over- 78ers Medical Aid Association. With Dr Peter Gyorffy and Latdjah Miller, the group collects older medical equipment from the Washington area to ship to nations like Russia, China, Indonesia and Ghana. They seek storage space and a truck to speed donations. The effort grew from a Chicago-based founder in 1971 and has already sent about 3,000 pounds to Mexico last spring.
