Crab prices rise as Maryland harvest dwindles this season

Maryland seafood players report higher crab costs due to cool spring and sparse harvest. Chuck Staley of Jug Bridge Seafood says prices are about 15 dollars higher per bushel than last year, with local markets around 85 to 90 dollars while others reach 165. DNR spokeswoman Patty Manowa cites weather and crabs burrowing in mud as factors. Memorial Day moon phase also affects shell shedding.
