Floods Hit Maryland Counties In Harsher Weather
Four people died as Maryland faced one of its worst floods in decades. Three unidentified child bodies were found near Falls Road and Ruxton Road. In Montgomery County, a 60 year old woman, Bessie Etta Schummann of Silver Spring, was swept away. Over 30 people were rescued in Frederick County and many were taken to Hood College. Roads flooded and numerous bridges washed out as Monocacy and Potomac rivers swelled. water remained swift and conditions hazardous through the day.

The American Red Cross aided 38 people stranded by floods at Hood College in Coblentz Hall. Mary and William Martin described rising water at their Jug Bridge home as police warned the Monocacy could crest by noon. Red Cross provided hot coffee food and dorm beds to travelers from the Virgin Islands Chicago Cincinnati and Elmira. A band stayed at the Golddust Inn and two men halted efforts to reach Buckeystown.
