Montgomery Trash Pact Under Fire
A Washington trash firm claims Montgomery County can choose private bidders for household trash and that Shayne Brothers Inc could have saved $30,000 monthly with a lower noncompetitive contract. Boskoff says Shayne would have bid $2.25 monthly versus United's $2.75 for single-family homes, while householders face two bills. Commissioner Austin says families will be billed anyway. Boskoff vows suit to invalidate the emergency contract as 260 workers struck, were fired, rehired by United.
