Interstate 70S Completed After Long Reconstruction
The 4.1 million Interstate 70S project, begun in 1964, is finished after 18 months of work. State engineers Mohler and Shook supervised sections from Frederick to Germantown and Germantown to Bethesda respectively. The heavy task replaced shoulders and ramps to meet interstate standards, improved safety, and included a test gravel shoulder approach on half the project. The work drew criticism over cost and signage, but a BPR funding halt was lifted and a final settlement is pending.
