Singing Boxer Can't Sing In Garden Ring
New York AP. Preparations for Thursday night's heavyweight bout between Oscar Bonavena and George Chuvalo hit a low note as Bonavena was denied permission to play a mandolin in Madison Square Garden ring. Local 802 of the Musicians' Union refused the request to accompany his Argentine national anthem and a prior recording. Bonavena said he would not sing without the mandolin. The bout, set for 10 rounds, follows earlier rejection by the New York State Athletic Commission to fight to the finish.
