News from Roanoke Va reports a fatal pistol duel in Fire Park North Carolina between James Ellis, a policeman, and mountaineer William Winters. Ellis was killed, Winters seriously wounded yet rode to a physician. Winters had a prior grudge after being arrested for disorderly conduct.

In Wilkes barre on June 21 the wife of John Snyder a fireman at Dorrance colliery Lehigh Valley Coal reports her North Wilkes barre home and contents burned after moving to Stanton Hill. Witnesses damaged furniture during unloading as neighbors allegedly caused the wagon disturbance. The wife and three children fled to friends then returned to find the house ablaze. Company officials investigate the claim of persecution and arson.
The body of a 12 year old girl was found yesterday in Gravesend Bay with cuts and bruises on head and hands. Police began an investigation to determine whether drowning or murder occurred and to learn how she died. A second item notes Frank Boda, a Bohemian, strangling himself in his police cell using a band torn from his underwear after prior suicide attempts.
In Bridgeton New Jersey on June 21 during a firemen pyrotechnic show a spectator John Hussey suffered severe leg injuries when a Totket sinking him struck while he sat on his piazza watching the display. The injury was described as partly tearing his leg.
Five people died and 29 were injured in a head on collision between two Northern Pacific passenger trains near Staples Minnesota early yesterday. He allegedly authorized 10 000 new shares worth 250 000 dollars and held securities valued at 50 000 dollars. Notes issued to cover expenses matured. treasurer could not supply funds. A meeting led to the assignment to Brown.
In Carbondale Pennsylvania on the Honesdale branch of the Delaware and Hudson railroad, Syracuse University student Robert Quale Meaker was fatally struck by a freight train while sprinting with fellow student Willis Gardner.
