Floods close roads and force evacuations after Monocacy surge

Monocacy River crest at Frederick reached 22.5 feet around 4 am, about seven feet above flood stage, triggering evacuations of 50 people and road closures. Firefighters conducted a dozen water rescues, including a woman stranded on a car near a billboard. Brenda Myers escaped as Emmitsburg streets flooded. firefighter Christopher Byard helped coordinate the rescue before help arrived. Hydrology teams warn drops may be slow but improving later today as rain subsides.

Flood claims Emmitsburg woman amid swift creek waters

The body of Karen Roman, 36, of Hampton Valley Road, was found by Frederick County sheriff's deputies in Little Owens Creek about 13 miles from her minivan near Eyler's Valley Road. Four inches of rain fell Tuesday night as her husband and daughter waited at the scene. deputies comforted the family and explained the tragedy.

Flood safety tips from Capt White after flood rescues

Maryland offers 28 million in loans to lure MedImmune plant

Annapolis The Board of Public Works approved loans totaling 28 million to Frederick city and county to entice MedImmune to build a 43.8 million manufacturing plant in Maryland.
