Hoke votes no County OKs FY 97 budget
Frederick County commissioners approved the fiscal year 1997 budget after a three month process. President Mark Hoke opposed the budget citing concerns over funding operating budget appeals from anticipated proceeds of three county owned properties. The operating budget totals 184.8 million dollars with a 45.8 million dollar capital budget and a six year capital plan over 358 million. A 3-2 vote shifted 87 thousand dollars from the board of education to capital projects, keeping nonrecurring costs in the education budget under new maintenance of effort rules. The final vote included Ter Roy Rhoderick and David Gray opposing the transfer plan.
