Supreme Court to decide Matsushita lawsuit fate
The Supreme Court agreed to review whether a Delaware state court settlement in a separate MCA case bars the federal securities lawsuit by about 7,000 ex-shareholders. The matter centers on Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. takeover of MCA Inc. in 1990 and potential multi billion dollar liability. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the Delaware settlement did not preclude the federal case and urged Judge Manuel Real to determine if payments to Lew Wasserman and Sidney Sheinberg were disguised premiums. The decision could affect similar cases in 1998 and beyond.
