Batman Returns warms Warner Bros with strong debut
The $55 million Batman Returns opened in late-night screenings nationwide as Warner Bros faces a troubled year. Despite a prior loss on the original Batman, the sequel aims to surpass it with extensive merchandise, while Michael Keaton and co stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito headline the Gotham tale directed by Tim Burton. Initial reports show sold-out theaters and strong early demand.
