Towns share parks money for Frederick County
Frederick County municipalities shared 607,670 in Project Open Space funds this year with the city of Frederick receiving 91,000 for parkland acquisitions. Middletown got 135,000 to expand Hawbottom Nature Park and Brunswick 77,835 to buy land for a recreation center. The program contributed over 12 million to the county, with the county receiving half and the towns negotiating the rest. Nine municipalities have 303,835 for acquisitions and 303,835 for development. Frederick plans include 66,000 to buy the Schifferstadt Museum property and 25,000 to relocate Chapel Park, pending aldermen approval due to maintenance and Maryland Historic Trust covenants. Additional projects spread funds to recreation facilities, a junior football field, and playground equipment in several towns. (Continued on Page A-12)

Cop captures motorcyclist after chase in Frederick
A motorcyclist tried to outrun a police officer on a 1991 Kawasaki on Madison Street at 8 30 p m Monday. He crashed into a backyard in downtown Frederick and broke his leg. Timothy Thomas 40 of Frederick faced authorities as the suspect. Officer Rob Brown on bike patrol attempted a stop but the rider sped away until pursuit ended.
