School board panel endorses rewards for educators
A Frederick County Board of Education committee endorsed rewards for teachers tied to performance, tenure, and academic prep, omitting any reference to master teachers. The 15 member panel chaired by Chanting Young, formed to study the concept, presented a report with no master teacher references. The ideas, praised by officials, echo merit pay debates that drew national attention last summer with President Reagan backing merit pay as a reform approach.
