Williams cleared in bribery case. Tulane basketball fate debated
John Hot Rod Williams was found innocent on all five counts of sports bribery and has signed a two year 300000 per year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tulane President Eamon Kelly and former coach Ned Fowler commented that the verdict would not change the university’s decision to drop men’s basketball due to NCAA violations. Williams admitted paying to sign before the NCAA recruiting period in 1961 and receiving payoffs from Tulane staff. Fowler described himself as a victim of circumstances.
