Montgomery County Considers Higher Trash Dumping Fee
The Montgomery County Council tentatively votes to raise tipping fees from 22 to 390 per ton starting August 1 and to tap nearly 2 million from the disposal fund surplus and general fund to cover operating costs for the Gaithersburg transfer station and Laytonsville landfill. Frederick County to run Operation Spider traffic safety drive
Maryland state and local police will target 55 mph roads in Frederick County during the coming months under Operation Spider. Officers from the Frederick bar racks sheriff's office and Frederick City Emmitsburg and Thurmont police will work overtime to deter drunk driving speeding and tailgating. The program funded by federal and state transportation departments provides up to 15000 to Frederick County for increased road surveillance and may include road blocks though several agencies oppose them. Congresswoman Beverly Byron has been named to the U N delegation for the Second Special Session on Disarmament, with President Reagan speaking June 17.
