President Truman vetoed the controversial basing point bill aimed at clarifying delivered pricing and freight practices in competition. Critics warned it would aid monopolies while supporters argued it vital for business. The veto drew no clear expectation of overturn, with Truman saying current laws already cover unfair competition. Also reported, Governors Thurmond and Wright were left off a Democratic luncheon invite, seen as a snub due to their 1948 State Rights ticket run.
