A string of break-ins and thefts in Emmitsburg during June 7 and 9 involved four homes and two businesses. Purses were taken from kitchens, a cash register was stolen from My Father's Footsteps, and several entries were through unlocked or forced doors. No arrests reported in this item.
Frederick police suspect a pair of thieves, described as nomadic gypsies, targeted an elderly resident on Rockwell Terrace. After inviting a visitor inside for notes, the woman was robbed of $120 and $2,000 in jewelry. Officers warn such scams may spread, as distraction thefts and home improvement cons are common tactics.
Gaithersburg resident Anita Sabin, 41, was found guilty in District Court of driving while under the influence after a fatal April 2 1988 crash on U S 15 near Rosemont Avenue that killed 21 year old Bernard Keeney Jr. of Woodsboro.
Frederick City residents Richard Cartnail and Royston Kendall received prison terms for cocaine sales. Cartnail got 20 years and $10,000 fine for selling crack to an undercover officer. Kendall received 10 years and a $2,500 fine for selling to a Prince George's County resident. Both terms largely suspended. Additional case: David Bowins admitted cocaine possession, faces four years for possession plus four more from a prior PCP conviction. Police continue probes into drug activity in Klinehart's Alley.
