Peril and relief in Nobile rescue effort near Spitsbergen
Reports from June 14 describe Umberto Nobile and crew aboard the crashed Italia stranded on Foyn Island. Injuries, snow blindness, and softened snow hinder movement while snowshoes medicine and rifles are requested as captors plan intercept of May 30 foot travelers. Polar bears approach the castaways as seaplanes and Hobby steamer attempt aid. Meanwhile Priderick Chapter No 79 Eastern Star plans its last meeting of the summer with an initiation at 7:30 in the Masonic Temple.
