South Viet Air Force Takes Over Its Own Sector
Washington reports the South Vietnamese air force has taken the main combat role in South Vietnam. Pentagon data show VNAF crews flying roughly twice as many sorties as U.S. planes in recent weeks, with U.S. aircraft still handling most Laos missions and a majority of Cambodian strikes. As U.S. ground troops wind down, U.S. officers plan a self sufficient VNAF by spring for inside South Vietnam. May VNAF sorties totaled 2,625 versus 1,360 by U.S. aircraft. early June figures show 660 VNAF sorties to 370 by U.S. forces.

Humphrey says city funds lag on civil rights issue
Sen. Hubert Humphrey told the US Conference of Mayors that lack of city funding is the nation’s major civil rights violation. He outlined eight programs including a national development bank to aid cities with $150 billion in long term loans, financed by bonds and private investors. He urged opening federal highway funds to cities and faster revenue returns to state and local governments.
