Boy's Arm Breaks From Accidental Gun Blast
A five year old Washington boy Billy Speidel was accidentally shot by his older brother at the farm home near Hyattstown. The shot lodged in his left arm causing a fracture but he was out of danger at Frederick Memorial Hospital and expected to recover fully barring infection. The weapon had been left within reach in the dining room and discharged as the brothers played with it.

Two Women Near Death After Fatal House Fire
In Oakland a fire at the small mountain home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ash killed three children and left two women near death from burns. The incident began with an explosion of unknown origin and raged within minutes. Tommy Ash age five and Peggy Ash age two died, Wanda Lee Knox age twelve also perished. Mrs. Emerson Knox, Wanda Lee's mother and Mrs. Ash's sister-in-law, was critically burned. Mr. Ash escaped, then helped pull the two women out and drove his wife to Garrett County Memorial Hospital where the baby born en route was also dead. Precipitation of .28 inch fell overnight with warmer weather and possible afternoon thundershowers. Winds and temperatures projected into the 80s for later today and tomorrow.
