Maryland's State Roads Commission and advisory council members wrapped a ten hour inspection tour of highway projects in Baltimore and western counties. The group saw U.S. 40 rebuilds near Boonsboro and Funkstown, scenic overlooks on U.S. 40, and a U.S. 29 sector west of Baltimore. The tour kicks off a series covering Maryland's 100 million postwar highway overhaul with about 9 million already touched and 40 million in progress. Machine Will Plant 1 000 Trees An Hour
Cumberland June 14 A machine that can plant trees at the rate of 1 000 or more per hour will be used in a Maryland reforestation program. Joseph F Kaylor director of the State Department of Forests and Parks outlined plans at a meeting. He said the program is aided by increased nursery production and could improve water retention. He also said negotiations with the Army Engineers to use part of the Youghiogheny reservoir as a recreation area near Mill Run or Selbysport Garrett county. Facilities for boating bathing fishing and picnicking are planned with completion not expected until next year.

Louisville Kentucky June 14 doctors meeting here have been told of an important step in the fight against infantile paralysis. Dr Harry M Weaver director of research for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis disclosed yesterday that one of three known viruses which cause the disease has been cultivated artificially.
