Yesterday afternoon the Leyland line steamer Assyrian ashore off Caps Race swung around on the rocks. The tug Petrel lay inside as a northeast gale raged and heavy seas rose. Both vessels were in a very critical position with the Assyrian pounding to pieces and feared to become a total wreck. The Petrel battled to tow the wreck but could not move her.
