Frederick considers counting street parking for townhomes
Frederick city planners approved a text amendment letting townhome builders in Planned Neighborhood Developments count on street parking toward required spaces. Each townhouse must have two spaces plus a half space per bedroom, with the half-space usable on public streets in front of or near the complex. The measure passed 2 to 1 and moves to the mayor and aldermen for final vote.

Rare brain disease hits five in Anne Arundel since 1992
Five county residents have developed Creutzfeldt Jakob disease since 1992, far above the two cases expected for the 431,000 population. Officials say cases appear unrelated and the disease is not spread by casual contact. The illness mimics dementia and progresses rapidly to death. Possible links include slow viruses, genetics, growth hormone exposure, or prior eye or brain surgery. One Annapolis area patient is in hospice care at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
