Hyattstown volunteers clash with County Executive over funding

Pitt reports progress in minority teaching hires
Montgomery County schools hired over 500 teachers this year with 18 percent minorities, a rate Superintendent Harry Pitt calls better than many nearby systems. The report to the school board notes 52 male hires, 10 percent of the total, up 2 percent from last year as part of efforts to boost male teaching staff.

TRANSERV awards honor county transportation group
Frederick County Transportation Services held a June 1 meeting at Mar La Ridge Conference Center where President David Wilkinson received a leadership award for the newly formed council. Other honors went to Ed Metka for promoting MARC and mag transportation, Lillie Goodsell for 15 years as supervisor dispatcher, and Ruby Burall for driver appreciation. The Damascus Commercial Improvement Strategy Committee meets June 13 at 7 30 p.m. at Damascus High School to review plans for a housing authority site and possible park designation. Sharon Brown earned the first TRANSERV driver of the year award during National Transit Operators Week.
