Gut Problems Highlight CAA Efforts in Frederick
Frederick Community Action Agency executive director Donald R Date told the Frederick Lions Club that job training transportation and housing are the gut problems in Frederick. The agency aims to place 18 trained workers in permanent positions within weeks and explores a private sector contract to expand opportunities. A high support program will offer education in speech and typing with potential college enrollment. A mini bus could expand access to health care from 70 to 80 to as many as 370 monthly, and a southwest Frederick credit union would serve locals with limited credit. The CAA has 300 depositors and seven charter member deposits applied for a grant to start the credit union. Date noted housing remains unresolved but there is federal money for subsidized loans. A county outreach plan will relay health department information to outlying areas. The Lions Club also recognized G William Trout Jr as winner of the Roaring Lions Public Speaking Contest.
