Sloan Digital Sky Survey to map a quarter of the sky
A new telescope using modified video camera chips will conduct the Sloan Digital Sky Survey beginning late this year or early next at Apache Point near Sun Spot New Mexico. Researchers from Johns Hopkins Princeton and seven institutions expect five years of data imaging a quarter of the sky yielding multicolor maps of roughly 100 million galaxies for study by future telescopes.
