Stores burned in grocery war in Brooklyn arson ring
Brooklyn authorities indict ten supermarket owners, nine Dominicans and one Colombian, for hiring arsonists to torch rivals in 1980. Fires at Key Food and Pioneer stores caused millions in damages, while some insurers delayed payouts. Several stores reopened amid wary customers and community concerns.

Jailhouse lawyers in Maryland prison push for favors
In Bagerstown Maryland inmates Richard Schweinsberg and Hubert Lawrence aid fellow inmates with court appeals and prison matters in exchange for cigarettes money or privileges. Superintendent James Tinney says most jailhouse lawyers hustle for compensation and are often more self serving than public service. Schweinsberg 32 works at a store four days a week while serving 18 years for armed robbery and Lawrence a five year term for grand larceny handles cases at the in house adjustment board. Both view future law work after release though legal careers face obstacles for ex felons.
