The Frederick Craft Fair attracted over 60,000 attendees across Friday to Sunday at the Frederick Fairgrounds. 460 craftspeople from 32 states showcased pottery, glass, leather, wood, and Damascus knives, with crowds clustering around booths and traffic delays noted on Md. 270 and I-70.
The Local Manpower Advisory Council's priorities for CETA programs received unanimous approval from Frederick County commissioners. Nearly $400,000 will fund work experience and training for the handicapped, disadvantaged youth, and unemployed adults. The Regional Department of Labor in Philadelphia issues the funds. The board also approved a $44,000 letter of credit for Lake Jennifer subdivision improvements. Commissioners Wirts and Lewis opposed the letter due to lack of irrevocable title. Public comments covered Shookstown Road rights of way and revived railway service in the northern county.
President Ford will publish the Rockefeller Commission report on the CIA while withholding details on alleged assassination plots, planning to share them with the Senate intelligence committee. The move follows ongoing questions from the Church-led panel and related testimony from Maheu and Bissell about attempts to kill Castro.
An 18 year old Libertytown area youth, William Smariga, died after an eastbound 1 70 crash near Bartonsville Road. The 19 year old driver Donald Anders was thrown from a rear window when his car overturned after being struck by a second vehicle driven by Raymond Kahl. Police say charges pending as investigation continues.
A Soviet submarine cruises near the U.S. coast as Wallace dismisses critics. In other briefs, attention turns to an energy tax package and negotiations on all raw materials. Local forecast promises sunny weather with temperatures in the 70s and clear to partly cloudy nights.
