5000 Marines to camp here June 24 for Gettysburg maneuvers
About 5,000 Marines will march through Ridgeville June 23 and reach the city June 24 to camp at the Fair Grounds. From Quantico they will stage field maneuvers on the Gettysburg battlefield from June 26 to July 1 under Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler, with 75 mm and 155 mm guns, tanks, searchlights, radios, and supporting units. The route passes Rockville Gaithersburg Ridgeville Frederick Thurmont and Gettysburg with detailed schedules for infantry and artillery movements.
