Cassidy launches 1982 bid for state's attorney
Daniel Cassidy, Gaithersburg attorney, kicked off his campaign at a Silver Spring armory fundraiser attended by about 350 supporters at $15 per person. He vows to win the Democratic primary to unseat Andrew L. Sonner, accusing Sonner of plea bargaining handgun counts and stressing Cassidy’s stance on confronting crime and discretion in prosecution. Rep. Michael Barnes and local backers voiced cautious support while Cassidy met attendees including police, attorneys, and politicians amid Irish songs and a show of momentum.
