Aldermen bar rival fuel trucks at Frederick airport turf battle
The Frederick City Board of Aldermen passed a resolution restricting fixed base operators from operating mobile fuel trucks on another operator’s leased airport space. The rule, to take effect after new tie downs and a taxiway, targets Frederick Aviation and International Aviation amid a long running dispute. FAA urged the move, while opponents urged hearings, citing pilots’ freedom to choose service. The meeting also approved a Delaplaine Visual Arts Center preservation easement and a Carroll Creek project consulting contract.

Three Farms Approved for Agricultural Preservation
Three farms totaling over 400 acres were approved for entry into the Agricultural Preservation Program. A 152 acre site off Buck Lantz Road near Sabillasville owned by Betty Calimer is joined by 127 acre plots off Geisbert Road owned by Donald and Peninah Smith and off Simpson Mill Road owned by C William and Geraldine Krantz. Next, the parcels go to the county planning commission then the county commissioners for final approval. Tim Blaser, county planner, said the move may encourage more farmers in the area to participate. In May, the county added about 100 acres to the program, collecting $16,000 of the $22,000 transfer tax fees.
