A 71 year old legally blind rider Thomas Dickey and his Amherst College partner Chris Sammartano completed a 3200 mile cross country journey on a tandem bicycle. They rode from Waterbury Connecticut to Easthampton Massachusetts and planned to finish in Amherst amid alumni cheers. The pair faced desert heat headwinds and mountains, averaging 85 miles daily, and carried a mascot horned toad named Mojave.
