Emmitsburg presses faster dualization for U S 15

Emmitsburg town board agreed to draft letters to local state and national officials urging expedited dualization of U S 15 from Putman Road to the Pennsylvania line. Independent candidate Stitely files for Frederick County commissioner

Richard E. Stitely, a Frederick plumber, filed candidacy petitions with about 1300 signatures for the county commissioner race, exceeding the roughly 1200 required for independents. The Board of Election Supervisors has 15 days to verify each signer is a Frederick County registered voter. Frederick County Reports First Tick Fever Case

Frederick County confirms its first Rocky Mountain spotted fever case in a 52 year old Mount Airy man whose identity is withheld. He is in satisfactory condition and not seriously endangered. Last year the county had up to nine reported cases as tick season spans spring to fall and drier conditions can curb ticks. Despite the name the Mid-Atlantic region sees higher fever incidence than other areas.

New group to promote voter registration in Frederick County

A new nonprofit coalition named Business Building Better Government BBBG aims to boost voter registration and participation among Frederick County business leaders. It includes the Frederick County Homebuilders, Realtors, Chamber of Commerce and Rusher public office. Volunteers will organize eight to ten man teams to coordinate efforts and register voters using registrar systems in Winchester Hall. The group plans to quiz officials and candidates on business issues and share written candidate answers, while remaining nonpartisan and educational.
