Eisenhower discusses Japan US servicemen justice in civil courts
President Eisenhower said the United States will let Japan try U S servicemen in civil courts in many cases where Japan asserts jurisdiction. He noted Japan has jurisdiction in a small percentage of cases and stressed careful, joint action with U S authorities. The remarks followed a case involving a U S airman and the Girard Ottawa, Ohio, case and touched on postwar treaty arrangements.
