Unnecessary Loans Feed Inflation and Debt Rise
The Voluntary Credit Restraint Committee and Defense Mobilizer Charles E. Wilson urge delaying nonessential projects to curb demand, prevent inflation, and protect national defense. Since Korea, nearly $2 billion in public securities have been sold, raising questions about need and wisdom of borrowing for facilities, rights of way, utilities, or ornamental buildings during the emergency. Public agencies should cooperate with restraints to avoid money in circulation fueling price rises.

Boyle Column on the fading Yankee peddler and changing times
New York writer HAL BOYLE notes America's first door to door seller has fallen on hard times as hundreds of towns ban house to house salesmen. He cites Supreme Court rulings, modern delays, and the rise of radio and television pushing itinerant peddlers out of daily life. He recalls the peddler’s once bustling role and hospitality, contrasting it with today’s distrust and safety concerns. He warns progress, especially media, is the true foe.

Realism vs International Law in Korean War Hearings
Senate hearings expose the clash between legalism and realism over Korea. Secretary Acheson acknowledges a mutual aid treaty could tempt Russia to intervene, while the U N and allied actions display selective enforcement of international law. Critics argue the United States ignores law in practice, maintaining a fragile balance between blockade, recognition, and war status.
