Brick or Terra Cotta Sewer Bid Causes City Debate
As dirt flew on South Market street officials debated sewer material and pricing. The aldermen favored brick for strength, though terra cotta bids were lower. Bond and Bates of Baltimore held the terra cotta bid at 3.00 per foot, while local Coblentz and Klipp offered brick at 5.95. No contract had been signed when questions arose about equal pricing and eventual material choice. Mayor Schell weighed in with the contractors on brick viability.
