Railroads Press for Higher Return on Investment
Industry representatives argued before the Interstate Commerce Commission that railroads deserve about a 4 to 6 percent return on investment. Edward Kaier of the Pennsylvania Railroad cited a 3.74 percent average for 1946 55 and a 3.95 percent rate last year as inadequate. He urged a policy shift to ensure a decent standard of living for rail carriers amidst ongoing rate hike discussions.
