Zoo saves antelope from extinction with Phoenix herd
AP reports at the Phoenix Zoo the Arabian oryx and spectacled bears are showcased as near extinction survivors. Since arrival 17 years ago the zoo bred over a hundred oryx while the spectacled bears raised two cubs in a secluded maternity den now shown to the public. Zoo staff note wild threats from habitat loss and hunting and stress cautious breeding programs under international conservation groups.
