Chicago announces a 22 story La Sallie hotel at a cost of 6 million dollars. The planned 1150 room building will span 14 acres, employ over 900 staff, use mahogany and cement doors, and largely non combustible materials. Rates promised to be reasonable.
The capitol investigation panel blasts contractor Sanderson for overcharges and shoddy work. Expert Fritz Lautz finds marble costs vastly inflated from $31,134 to $216,126.50, with profits up to 5,000 percent. The report accuses cheaper materials and altered drawings, plus hurried, ill digested construction. Governor Stokes’s brother, Miss Agnes Gill, and Druid Kemble Stokes are noted in society items.

Kansas City, Mo. June 3 Patrick J. Hugues a money lender must pay a fine of $200 and serve 30 days in the county jail for exacting usurious interest from J. H. Williamson. A practitioner was declared guilty in January 1908 of collecting 74 percent a month for several months on a fee of $10 with no avenues.
