Sheriff seeks middle school school resource officers
Frederick County Sheriff Jim Hagy seeks federal funds to place one school resource officer in each middle school to curb violence and mentor students. County commissioners postponed a funding vote, which would match 214000 in county funds for the first year of a three year COP grant totaling 1.3 million, with a county match of 605007. Since 1995 juvenile offenses have risen sharply, including 82 percent more status offenses and 70 percent more simple assaults.

Lime Kiln plant seeks OK to pipe limestone powder
Maryland Stone aims to build a 200000 ton limestone plant on Essroc land in Lime Kiln to grind lime powder and pipe it underground to Tamko Roofing Products across the street. An eight inch pipe 1500 to 2000 feet long would carry ground lime under Lime Kiln Road to Tamko silos, eliminating about 8000 yearly truck shipments from York, Pennsylvania. The facility would employ about eight and be enclosed with dust kept from visible sight.

The Gem of an airport will shine this weekend as Frederick celebrates its 50th anniversary alongside the Air Craft Owners and Pilots Association 60th anniversary and the 9th annual Fly-In and Open House.
