Debate over early muzzleloader deer season continues
The Maryland Wildlife Division kept the three day October early muzzleloader deer hunt as a two year experiment amid mixed bowhunter reaction. A survey by Responsive Management found broad support for an early season but divided opinions on October dates. Wildlife Director Josh Sandt said the majority favor the concept, yet concerns about bowhunting disruption, rut timing, and small game seasons linger despite expectations of 6,000 to 8,000 buck kills over the three days. The group plans close monitoring and two year evaluation to guide possible changes.
