Frederick guardsmen join D-Day observance in Normandy
Three Frederick National Guard soldiers will join about 2,500 U.S. troops in Normandy for the 50th anniversary of D-Day. Spec. Raymond Sutherland of Monrovia, Sgt. Lee Luckabaugh of Mifflinburg, Pa., and Spec. Kenneth Wheeler of Woodsboro travel with Company A, 115th Battalion, 29th Division Infantry (light). The 29th Division, the only National Guard unit in the operation, landed on Omaha Beach with the First Division. They departed Frederick for Andrews Air Force Base, then to Iceland, then France.
