Pension bill remains dissent issue with legislators
The Chamber of Commerce reports ongoing disagreement over a teacher pension reform bill. Sen Edward F P Thomas Frederica criticizes the bill as a major 1978 setback, blaming timidity and fiscal irresponsibility in the House of Delegates for its demise after pressure from the teachers union. Delegates Julies P Delphey and V Lanny Hardenhorn note timing and unresolved questions, including pragmancy care provisions, affecting whether changes would take effect. Dr John L Carnochan Jr chaired the chamber meeting with attendees from Frederick and Carroll counties.
