Lack of bees and sun hurt fruit crops nationwide
Weather and a bee shortage chill fruit yields from New England orchards to California almonds. Wild bees declined after harsh winters and mite invasions, prompting reliance on domesticated hives and pollination rental. Some farms like Brooksby in Peabody benefited from managed bees and a sunny day, while others faced losses up to 90 percent.
