Orioles to Acquire Bonilla Ignite Run For Playoff Push

Orioles general manager Roland Hemond touted the Bonilla trade as a potential spark for Baltimore as they chase the division in a tight race. Phil Regan called the move a big deal and hoped it jumps the club’s pace, while manager Regan noted Bonilla’s arrival could energize the clubhouse and fans. Bonilla, 32, is signed through 1996 and may have only a few prime years left, making the deal a high-stakes choice for a pennant chase. Ochoa, 23, represents a long term upside, contrasting with Bonilla’s shorter window. The notes clarified that Kimera Bartee of Bowie was not the PTBNL in the Erickson deal.
