Stamp honors Jackie Robinson and future legends
The U S Postal Service issue marks the fifth Black Heritage USA stamp featuring Jackie Robinson, with a Gordon-style home-plate scene and details on First Day Covers. It notes Robinson's UCLA days, Dodgers debut in 1947, MVP 1949, Hall of Fame 1962, and death in 1972. It also previews 1983 Babe Ruth and 1984 Roberto Clemente stamps in the American Sports Series and offers stamp-collecting starter kits from the U S Stamp Collectors Society.
