May Revive Copper Mining Near Frederick County

Copper exploration may restart near Frederick County as drilling studies begin next week on farms east of the city. American Smelting and Refining Company leads the effort with options on about 1200 acres in the New London Liberty Unionville area. Drilling on the Paul E Young farm will use a single diamond drill to samples depths up to 400 to 500 feet to gauge ore extent and tonnage. If results look promising, more rigs will operate and ore may be milled on site and shipped to Baltimore for smelting.
