Nine Classes Open At Model Airplane Contest Here Aug.8
Nine classes will be open for competition at the First Model Airplane contest at Frederick Airport on August 8, chaired by Col. Vincent L. Ruwet for the Exchange Club. Prizes will go to winners in flying skill, speed and beauty. Precision Pattern and stunt pattern events test flight pattern rather than radio control, with a 78 point and 207 point maximum respectively. Radio controlled planes add maneuvers like Immelman turns and loops, while speed contests promise thrills with tiny models reaching 60 to 150 mph. All entries must meet Academy of Model Aeronautics specs and pass safety checks.
