Drug use by teens shows decline but remains high
Washington AP A top federal official says teen drug use, especially marijuana, is falling among U S. high school students even as they still have the highest usage level in the industrialized world. Daily marijuana use among seniors dropped to 9.1 percent in 1980 from 10.9 percent in 1978. Cigarette daily use fell to 21 percent last year, with declines accelerating among both sexes. Pollin attributes changes to growing health concerns and reduced peer approval, while noting overall teen drug use remains high.
